For my first Spirit blog post, I want to talk to you about one of my favorite topics: Chakras!!! Did you know that your body has seven main chakras? You may be asking…um…what the heck is a chakra…and how do you even say that? Does the ch sound like shhhhh or ch? In a nutshell, chakras are the centers in our bodies through which our energy flows. Sounds super fancy, right? Well it kind of is, but for today, just trust me that they are there and that they help us to feel good and healthy and happy. I’ll be writing about the chakras in this section. Today I want to focus on the first chakra. The one on the ground floor, our powerhouse and safe house, the root chakra.
The root chakra is found at the base of the spine, in the tailbone area. Its color is red, and it’s associated with feelings of safety and security. If our energy in the root chakra is blocked, it can manifest as feelings of inadequacy or even money problems. There are ways to unblock this energy center, and they are easy to do: color therapy, affirmations, and yoga.
Here are three suggestions you can do to help you balance and clear your root chakra:
- Color therapy –the root chakra is associated with the color red. Wear a read shirt, buy some red flowers to decorate your desk at work, or burn a red candle in your home or office. Having this color around you can help you to balance your root chakra.
- Affirmations –the root chakra’s affirmation is “I am.” Say this to yourself during meditation, write “I am safe” or “I am secure” on sticky notes and post them where you will see them throughout the day: on your computer, in your car, on your mirror. And repeat these phrases morning, noon, and evening.
- Yoga –yoga poses help to move stagnant energy throughout the body. Some great yoga poses for the root chakra are Child’s Pose, Forward Fold, and Warrior II.
Hope you enjoyed this post about Muladhara (root chakra). Stay tuned for the second chakra, Sacral chakra and how to clear and strengthen this area of the energetic body.
